Chief wins two first-place awards

LAFAYETTE- The Donaldsonville Chief earned two first-place awards Saturday, April 30 at the Louisiana Press Association luncheon held in Lafayette.

The awards came as a part of LPA’s Better Newspaper Editorial Competition and Better Newspaper Advertising Competition for 2009, with awards being given in individual contests for first, second, third places and honorable mention.

The editorial contests range from news story writing to graphic design, while the advertising entries were judged based on design, creativity and effectiveness. The Chief competes in Division 7.

Sixty-seven newspapers, publications, and college/university student newspapers submitted 3,533 entries.

The Donaldsonville Chief earned first-place accolades in the Best Front Page, and Best Classified Section.

The Chief also placed third in division 7 for Best Sports Story and third place for Best Overall Website in division C.

The Chief gained honorable mention for best overall Sports Coverage for Division 7.
