Ascension Consolidated Utilities District One has begun construction of two new water towers on the west bank of Ascension Parish. The first water tower is located on Hwy 70 near the railroad tracks by CF Industries. This water tower will have a capacity of 400,000 gallons of water. The second water tower is located on Palo Alto Plantation near Highway 1 South and will have a capacity of 150,000 gallons of water.

These water tower projects are funded by private funding from revenue bonds by ACUD #1 and by funds provided by the Parish of Ascension Grants Office on behalf of Parish President Tommy Martinez and Ascension Parish Council through a grant application from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s State and Tribal Assistance Grants. Gene Wossum, EPA Project Officer, is providing assistance with this funding. The other funding agency is the Louisiana Office of Community Development-Community Water Enrichment Fund Grant assisted by Director Carol M. Newton and Program Manager Marc Parenti.

Construction on these water towers will be completed by Dec. 31, 2010 and will provide increased water volume and storage for fire protection. Residents of Hwy 1 South and Hwy 308 South, St. Jude Subdivision, Abend, and the Ascension Parish Jail will all enjoy the benefits of these improvements with superior water pressure and storage.
