Ascension Parish deputies make drug arrest

Ascension Parish deputies arrested a Donaldsonville man on August 15 after finding a quantity of narcotics in his possession.

According to Sheriff Jeff Wiley, the deputies were searching for another individual who is wanted for felony violations when they came into contact with Shedrick Mumphrey at 1305 E. Bayou Rd., Apartment 304, Donaldsonville.

Mumphrey, who was also wanted for Failure to Appear in Court on a case related to a domestic violence arrest, initially gave a false name to the deputies, and then tried to run away.  He was detained and found to have 86 packets of and 40 packets of cocaine.  The total weight of the marijuana was 2.5 ounces and the total weight of the cocaine was 10.5 grams.

In addition to be wanted for Failure to Appear in court, at the time of his arrest Mumphrey was out of jail on a $215,000 bond for a 2008 arrest where he was charged with three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Weapon, and 2 counts of Negligent injury.

Mumphrey, 24, of 811 Lessard St., Donaldsonville was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Criminal Trespassing, Resisting Arrest, and Failure to appear in Court.  He is currently being held in the Ascension Parish Jail and his bond has been set at $100,000.
