Mighty Times: The Children’s March Viewing

Allison B. Hudson

On Saturday, February 5 in celebration of Black History Month, the St Paul Baptist Church will have a showing of the short documentary film Mighty Times: The Children’s March, developed for the Southern Law Center and produced by Robert Hudson and Bobby Houston.

This 2005 Academy Award winning film won the Oscar in the documentary short subject category. The movie tells the story of a group of young people from Birmingham, Alabama, who would endure courageously the fire hoses and police dogs in the 1963 fight against segregation. The heroism of these young Americans moved President John F. Kennedy to introduce the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This legislation transformed the South…and the nation.

This film can be a catalyst for discussions with young people who are interested in making positive social changes to stop the drugs and violence in community today. We invite you to bring your children, parents and grandparents to share in the viewing of this thought provoking history-making event.
