Staff reports

Paragon Casino Resort welcomes Chaka Khan to the Mari Showroom stage on Saturday, April 2. Tickets are $30 with doors opening at 8 p.m. and show starting at 9 p.m.

Khan has enjoyed solo success as well as popularity as a member of the 70’s funk group Rufus before going solo in 1978. In 1984 Khan released her sixth studio album, “I Feel for You,” which featured the title track which won her a Grammy Award in 1985. Other singles from the album “This is My Night” and “Through the Fire” helped the album go platinum.

Khan followed that success with albums during the late 80’s “Destiny” and “CK.”  Khan was prominently featured in the duet with Steve Winwood’s number-one hit “Higher Love” in 1986. Khan found more success in the UK in the late 80’s with a remix album “Life is a Dance – The Remix Project,” which reached the top ten on the UK albums chart. In 1990, she won another Grammy for "I'll Be Good to You," a duet with Ray Charles.

Khan has released a total of twelve solo albums and her most recent “Funk This” was released in 2007 and won a Grammy for Best R&B Album. To date, she was won 10 Grammy Awards, including two as a member of Rufus. In 2008, Khan performed in the Broadway adaptation of “The Color Purple” playing Ms. Sofia.
