Girl Scout Bass Fishing Rodeo set for May 7 at Camp Whispering Pines

Bring your favorite Girl Scout to Camp Whispering Pines in Independence for a one-day Bass Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, May 7 hosted by Girl Scouts Louisiana East. This day-long fishing event will feature a morning, and afternoon/evening competition with one-hour fishing sessions available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Each team can choose from seven time slots throughout the day and will weigh their total catch at the end of their one-hour session with the most pounds of fish winning each competition. No boats are necessary since girl-adult teams will utilize the camp’s boats.

           “According to our camp ranger, our 23-acre Timber Lake is full of bass right now,” said Robin Guillmette, executive vice president of membership and program. “We encourage every fishing enthusiast with a Girl Scout to join us for one of south Louisiana’s favorite outdoor activities.”

           Registration for 21 teams per one-hour session is available at with a cost of $25 per team. Teams made of one Girl Scout age 7-17 and an adult partner must supply their own fishing poles and lures. Camp Whispering Pines’ canoes and flat boats will be the only boats used in the rodeo. Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch, and each girl will receive a patch.
