April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Staff reports

Protecting children is everybody’s business. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect and encourage individuals and communities to support children and families. Child Advocacy Services (CAS) is participating in an agency-wide ‘Blue Ribbon Campaign’ in conjunction with National Child Abuse Prevention.

All LeBlanc’s Food Stores have partnered with Child Advocacy Services by offering Blue Ribbon Cards for a $1 donation. All donations help Child Advocacy Services provide services and child abuse prevention in our communities.  In addition, GonzalesMayorBarney Arceneaux is hosting 75 stakes outside City Hall to represent all of the Ascension Parish CASA children served last year. The public is welcome to view.

CAS provides vital resources to abused or neglected children in 10 parishes across Southeast Louisiana. Last year, CAS served 75 children in Ascension Parish and placed 34 of those children in safe and permanent homes as a result of our services through the CASA program. In addition, our Children’s Advocacy Center Program conducted 81 forensic interviews for children who alleged sexual or severe physical abuse.

CAS employees and volunteers will be distributing blue ribbons within the community in honor of children who have suffered from abuse or neglect. In addition, they are seeking the support of schools, businesses, and other interested and able community members for donations that are used to provide child abuse prevention services throughout the year.
