Council declares April as Fair Housing Month

Allison B. Hudson

The Donaldsonville City Council declared April as Fair Housing Month. Fair housing came  about in 1968 when the Civil Rights Act of 1968 was signed by President Lyndon Johnson. The 1968 act expanded on previous acts and prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin, sex, (and as amended) handicap and family status.

Over the years, the Fair Housing Act as has grown and the city of Donaldsonville supports this cause.
