RPCC to deliver adult education programming

Staff reports

River Parishes Community College is proud to announce that it will begin delivering adult education programming in Ascension Parish.  This program will allow RPCC to offer educational services to adults age 18 and older and places a greater focus on job readiness in addition to a high school Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED).

RPCC will assume responsibilities for the adult education program from the Ascension Parish School Board.  This administrative change is the result of Louisiana Senate Bill 297 that was passed during the 2010 regular session.  Senate Bill 297 transferred adult education responsibilities from the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) to better facilitate the transition from adult education programming to two-year post-secondary institutions.

RPCC is working with the Ascension Parish School Board (APSB) to make the transition as seamless as possible.  Therefore, the APSB will complete its normal school year in May, and RPCC will begin the program at its normally scheduled time in August/September.  Although details have not been finalized yet, RPCC is excited about this opportunity and looks forward to working with interested participants.

For more information, questions can be directed to the River Parishes Community College Technical Education Campus at (225) 675-5397.  Interested participants will be contacted by July or August about enrolling.
