What’s Going on Here? Donaldsonville named a Cultural District

WHAT IT IS: The Office of the Lt. Governor and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism are pleased to announce certification of the eight new Cultural Districts in Louisiana.
Donaldsonville is amongst those named, as well as Ascension Parish. Others are: Highland Community Cultural District in Shreveport, City of Denham Springs Cultural District, Downtown DeRidder Cultural District, Breaux Bridge Cajun Creole Cultural District, Grand Coteau Cultural District, and Old South Baton Rouge Cultural District.
Along with this Cultural District designation property owners are now eligible to apply for state historic tax credits for renovation projects and sales of original works of art in the districts are tax exempt.
“I am so happy we are amongst these great cities, there are great things to come, and this is only the beginning,” said Missy Jandura, Executive Director of the Donaldsonville Downtown Development District.
