RPCC adult education schedule, registration set

River Parishes Community College has released the spring 2012 schedule for adult education in Ascension Parish.

The schedule for the adult education program in Ascension Parish, which RPCC facilitates, includes dates for classes, registration, placement testing and orientation, Nicholas Ory, a college spokesman said in a news release.

RPCC will offer classes in Sorrento at 8:30 a.m. and noon Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and at 5 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday nights. RPCC will offer classes in Donaldsonville at 8:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes will begin in Sorrento on Jan. 17 and in Donaldsonville on Jan. 24.

Adult education classes are open to students 18 years old and older who wish to improve their basic reading, math and language skills and who want to prepare for the Graduate Equivalency Diploma test, Ory said.

Registration for new students will be held in Sorrento and Donaldsonville. Registration will take place at the River Parishes Community College-Technical Education Center campus at 9697 Airline Highway in Sorrento and at the Ascension Parish Library at 500 Mississippi St. in Donaldsonville.

Applicants can register in Sorrento Jan. 9-Jan. 13. Registration in Sorrento will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 9 and Jan. 11; 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 10; 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 12; and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Jan. 13.

Applicants can register at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 17 and Jan. 19.

Interested students must complete the registration process, which includes a series of tests to assess each student’s grade-level proficiency in reading, math and language skills. Testing will be offered at the RPCC-TEC campus in Sorrento during registration Jan. 9 through Jan 13, and Jan 19 at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville.

After completing these tests, students will schedule an orientation, which lasts approximately two hours. During orientation, students will review their test scores and the program policies and regulations, complete the proper paperwork and pay a $20 test and supply fee, he said.
