Rock Throwing Incident Causes Car Crash

Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala that reports four juveniles were arrested following an automobile accident that was caused by a group of kids throwing a rock.

On March 19, 2012 at approximately 10:30 pm the Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a one vehicle accident on Highway 429 near Buxton Road in St. Amant.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies discovered 44 year old Brenda Ann Swander of 47021 Highway 22 Lot # 8 St. Amant inside of the vehicle with significant injuries.

During the course of the investigation deputies discovered a softball size rock in the passenger’s seat of Swander’s vehicle. At the conclusion of the investigation deputies determined that someone had thrown the rock at Swander’s windshield causing her to lose control and run off of the roadway into a pasture and strike a telephone pole.

Swander was transported to a Baton Rouge area hospital where she is currently recovering from her injuries.  Her vehicle was totaled due to the damage caused by the accident.

As deputies furthered the investigation 4 juveniles were developed as suspects. After questioning the 15 year old juveniles, all from the St. Amant area, they were arrested for causing the automobile accident.

The four juveniles were arrested and charged with Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery, Negligent Injuring, and Aggravated Simple Criminal Damage to Property. All four juveniles are presently detained in the St. James Youth Center.
