ACHS Baseball Looks to Seniors for Strong Season
The 2012 ACHS Baseball team is loaded with seniors and Coach Todd Landry hopes that will help his team go deep in the Class A playoffs. ACHS is no stranger to success in baseball with several trips to the playoffs and winning the last four District Championships. Coach Landry hopes the 2012 version is no different. Back to lead ACHS on the mound is Senior Jake Lejeune. Lejeune will also play catcher when not pitching for the Bulldogs.
Senior Alex Olivier will provide leadership in the outfield and hits for average with outstanding speed on the bases. Senior Timmy Daze plays outfield and hits in the heart of the ACHS lineup. Senior Nick Ourso pitches and catches and has had some nice outings on the mound this season. Senior Trey Richard will play second base and picked up the Bulldogs first win on District 9A with a ten strikeout performance against East Iberville.
Senior Robert Landry is a returning starter in the outfield with good speed. Senior Cade Schexnayder plays shortstop and third for ACHS and has been a steady hitter this season. Senior Seth Guercio pitches, plays third and will DH for the Bulldogs.
Junior Hunter Medine is a starter in the outfield and a left handed pitcher that will provide depth. Junior Tyler Simmenoux will DH and play first base and should bring some experience back from starting the last 2 seasons. Sophomore DJ Latino has returned from an injury and will start at third base. Sophomore Grant Montero will be counted on to play middle infield and pitch for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Lee Oubre is a utility infielder who will garner some playing time and be used as a courtesy runner. Sophomore Ross Barbier will provide depth at catcher and hit as the DH in certain situations. Freshmen Austin Esquivel has been a starter at 2nd base and played solid defense.
Freshmen Patrick Butler has contributed as a runner and will provide some key at bats this season. The Bulldogs are currently 4-10 and 1-0 in District as of press time. The Bulldogs have played a really tough schedule against mostly 3A and above. Coach Landry hopes his team will benefit from the tough schedule and will battle St John in its quest for another District title and long playoff run. Landry is assisted by Larry Dunn, Rick Bolotte and Billy Clark.
