April Recognized As Autism Awareness Month in Ascension Parish

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed the month of April, 2012 as Autism Awareness Month in Ascension Parish.
President Martinez read the proclamation during the March 15 parish council meeting.
Sandra Trammell, founder of the Ascension Parish Autism Support Group and an autism resource specialist with Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, received the proclamation and announced an upcoming event.
Trammell said the Greater Baton Rouge ACTIVE for Autism 3rd Annual 5 K Run/Walk and Fun Fest will take place on Saturday, March 31 from 8 a.m. till noon. The event will take place on the grounds of the State Police Headquarters on Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge.
Trammell said last year’s event raised $120,000 for autism research.
“We’re hoping this year will be another successful year,” Trammell said.
