The Ascension Catholic Church held a food fest Sunday to raise money to get the inside of the church painted. The food fest turned into a community picnic as over 700 people filled the Lemann Center to enjoy the samples and meal served.

The church had a goal to reach $150,000 and there is no doubt that after the event the goal was reached because they went into the day with $140,000 already raised. Pastor of the church, Father Paul Yi was pleased with the turnout from the community to support the great cause.

"It's a testimony to the people of Donaldsonville and the surrounding area how generous they are."

Marvin Gros coordinated the event and got the ball rolling as the chairman of the committee who put it together. He said it was a "great day."

"Good community event and everybody came out to support a project that is well worth while.
