Council discusses Railroad Ave., Iberville St. at C.O.W.

Attention has been brought to the Donaldsonville City Council on an issue of safety at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Iberville Street in the Historic District. The complaint: can’t see oncoming traffic down the avenue.

There used to be a red light right where the two roads meet, but it is now inoperable and the cost to repair is very expensive, according to Donaldsonville Mayor Leroy Sullivan.

Sullivan brought up the possibility of making the intersection a four-way stop or doing something where people can’t park as close to the corners of the intersection because people coming along Iberville can’t see the traffic coming through on Railroad Avenue.

“You have to get out into the road to see if traffic is coming,” Sullivan said. “We have to look at that and consider making it a four-way, if that’s the best thing to do or putting a sign where they can’t park.”
