Got bikes?

The Mt. Triumph Baptist Church hosted its first bike-a-thon Saturday with a ride through the city.

The Mt. Triumph Baptist Church hosted its first bike-a-thon on Saturday, June 29 that started at the Frank Sotile, Jr., Pavilion and ended at the church. Riders of all ages biked and were led by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office troopers. The event was coordinated for a building fund raiser and most importantly to give the kids something to do during the summer.

“We’re in the process of building a new church on the 945 Loop and we decided to do our fist bike-a-thon as one of the fund raisers,” Reverend Carnell Joseph said, Pastor of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church.

Rev. Joseph said one of the blessings about this is that they are getting the children together and having them do something during the summer.

“A lot of times the children get bored when they are out of school,” Rev. Joseph said, “so I’m grateful for the church being able to gather the children together and the children in the community so that we can have this participate in this.”

Darlene Joseph and Bobbi Henry were the church sponsors who coordinated the bike-a-thon and Rev. Joseph added that in the near future the church is going to be doing other things that involve the community and the children.
