Construction halts at Railroad Avenue

Donaldsonville’s Railroad Avenue was supposed to be under construction the past few weeks, starting August 5 according to a letter R.J. Daigle & Sons senior project manager Tate Acosta sent out to businesses and residents in the area. However the construction has yet to start.

Mark Maher, of GSA Consulting Engineers, said at last week’s council meeting that the obvious problem is equipment failure and getting the parts, “that’s what we’ve been told.”

“They did not want to open up Railroad Avenue just to do a portion of it, when they get on Railroad Avenue they do not want to mess around,” Maher said.

Donaldsonville Mayor Leroy Sullivan said the project is on hold, but they should resume at the end of the month. He said they will send letters out again saying when they will start.
