The Donaldsonville High School football team welcomed former Southern University football quarterback Quincy Richard to give a pre-game motivational speech before the team’s game against Assumption High on Friday. Richard delivered a message that simply said, “Be prepared for the now?”

Richard played quarterback for the Southern Jaguars from 1999-2003 and earned numerous awards for his play. At the end of his collegiate career, Richard said he wasn’t initially ready for the “now what.”

“They always told me my mechanics weren’t good enough to play in the NFL,” Richard said.

Richard told the Tigers team his plan quickly emerged into going to law school, which now has enabled him to practice law today.

At the end of Richard’s talk, DHS head football coach Benny Guilbeaux said to the team, “Be mindful of the decisions you make on a daily basis and be accountable for them.”
