Chamber bringing back the PINK

The Donaldsonville Chamber of Commerce is bringing back the pink again this year for the month of October to help raise breast cancer awareness. The initiative began last year and after “painting the town pink” on each Friday of the month, the Chamber seeks to do it again with the help of the community.

Chamber President Allison Hudson said they never expected the participation to be so successful in its first year and the community “involvement was awesome.”

“We had the schools involved, the parents, the grandparents, teachers, business owners, everyone purchased these shirts and wore them in the month of October,” Hudson said.

The Chamber also attended football games and gave a halftime presentation to those who are currently in the fight with breast cancer, those who have beat the cancer battle, and also those who lost their fight with the cancer.

“This year it was a no-brainer to do the community fundraiser again,” Hudson said. “We designed a new shirt and partnered with Mary Bird Perkins this year and again just as last year ten percent of the proceeds will go to Mary Bird Perkins cancer.”

Hudson said again the Chamber has reached out to local businesses and schools to help sport the newly designed shirts and to make this year another success and hopefully something “we can continue for years to come.”

“I was overwhelmed with joy of the support we received last year with this fundraiser, the amount of people that just simply said thank you for showing care was amazing,” Hudson said. “My goal is that together as a community we can come together and support a great cause and fight this cure as a community.”
