Weekly Citizen brings Talley in as Editor

GateHouse Media's Louisiana Publisher Suzanne Nelson announced last week DeRon Talley as the Editor of the Gonzales Weekly Citizen newspaper, and that Talley will continue his role as the Editor of the Donaldsonville Chief.
"DeRon (Talley) will assume the duties necessary to continue to publish a great weekly newspaper for the residents in Gonzales and Ascension Parish," Nelson said in a released statement.
Nelson said Talley has shown the ability to dedicate himself to his work with passion and sensibility.
The Gonzales Weekly Citizen and the Donaldsonville Chief aren't the first two newspapers to share Editors under GateHouse Media. There was a similar reduction of force and transition in central Louisiana.
"We have learned what works and what doesn't through trial and tribulation," Nelson said.
Talley, 23, of Folsom, La. was named Editor in Donaldsonville in October 2012. Talley said he will continue to work toward his initial goal in Donaldsonville, "improving the paper weekly." And he said he will bring that same effort across the river to Gonzales.
"I'm excited to be able to serve the City of Gonzales and now Ascension Parish as a whole between the two papers," Talley said. "In my time with The Chief, I learned a lot about how to serve and I'm expecting the same in Gonzales."
Talley is a 2012 Mass Communications graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He is the son of Dexter Sr. and Rhonda Talley of Folsom, La.
Talley added: "As I've always said since beginning my career, I just want to serve the readers and help the newspaper get better in each issue. I want to make readers feel they can come to their hometown paper for the best source of news going on around them."
