When you have a body of work as did Dr. Ridley J. Gros, it’s only appropriate something is dedicated in your honor. Nicholls State University did just that when it dedicated its auditorium in the name of Dr. Ridley J. Gros on April 17.

Dr. Gros, a native of Donaldsonville and resident of Thibodaux, dedicated 36 years of his professional career to Nicholls State University. He started at Nicholls in 1968 as an associate professor for business administration and later served as dean of the College of Business Administration for two stints and as vice president for institutional advancement. His proudest accomplishment was helping the college earn initial and subsequent accreditations by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Gros also served on the AACSB National Accreditation team for colleges and universities.

An active member of the Thibodaux Rotary Club, Gros achieved perfect attendance at club meetings for 42 consecutive years and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as president of the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, Thibodaux Rotary Club and Southwestern Deans Association. Named dean emeritus at Nicholls, Gros was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Nicholls Alumni Federation, the Frank Kennedy Citizen of the Year Award from the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Federation of Business Disciplines and the Bishop’s Medal for service to the church from the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. He also served on the board of directors for Assumption Bank, LAT Workforce Investment and South Louisiana Economic Council.

Gros, who passed away on August 16, 2013, was an avid gardener and spent his retirement enjoying his beautiful backyard. An accomplished chef and wine connoisseur, he created many gourmet meals enjoyed by his large group of family and friends.
