Potential career opportunities at CF Industries
During the past several months, a number of informational sessions have taken place at local churches in Ascension Parish to increase awareness concerning potential job opportunities at area chemical plants. Alvin Ellis, Jr. of Geismar has served as facilitator for these sessions and has provided updates as new information becomes available.
On August 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., an informational session is planned at Bernardo’s located at 2244 Highway 3120 in Donaldsonville. The focus of the skills-driven event is to provide information for potential candidates regarding skills and specialized training needed to excel in the chemical plant industry.
All interested individuals should attend this interactive session. No RSVP is required to participate.
Crafts and food Fest
Mt. Triumph Baptist Church is hosting a Crafts and Food Fest featuring the Soul Train Riders Motorbike Club with the theme of, “Blessing of the Bikes” on August 9 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of Hwy. 1 and Oak Street in Donaldsonville. Bike riders will meet at the foot of the Sunshine Bridge in Donaldsonville at 9:15 a.m. Kickstands will be up at 9:30 a.m. to depart to the church. "Back to School Symposium" at Donaldsonville High on Friday, August 1 at 6 p.m. Joseph "Mr. Gabe" Sonnier will be the motivational speaker. Mr. Gabe worked as a janitor for 27 years at Port Barre Elementary School in Port Barre, Louisiana and is now the Principal of Port Barre Elementary School.

Free Small Business Consulting at Library
Ascension Parish Library offers free small business consulting on the second Wednesday of each month at the library in Donaldsonville located at 500 Mississippi Street. Persons wanting to start or improve a small business receive a private, two-hour consultation designed to provide professional help in areas of financing, marketing, and accounting.
This service is provided by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University – Baton Rouge and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Flu Shots Available at Ascension Parish Health Unit in Gonzales
GONZALES – The Ascension Parish Health Unit in Gonzales is offering flu mist treatments and flu vaccines every weekday, except Wednesdays, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. for a cost of $10. There is no fee for residents with Louisiana Medicaid or Medicare.
