Donaldsonville Mayor Leroy Sullivan, along with city and area officials, announces plans for improving Crescent Park.

Lots of positives are on the way for Donaldsonville.

Several dignitaries were on hand Friday morning for a ceremony kicking off renovations to Crescent Park and the surrounding river front area.

City and area officials joined together to announce the good news to a crowd of community and media members.

The improvements will build on the work completed in recent years to the levee top trail along Mississippi Street in the city's historic district.

The latest phase is scheduled for completion in 2015.

The river front area represents just some of the changes coming to Donaldsonville.

The Main Street program has received a donation from renowned local chef John Folse. Plans are in the works to convert the historic building along Railroad Avenue into office space and a shopping area, according to the program's director.

The city's fire department has outgrown its station, built in 1960. A new bigger building will help firefighters bring better protection to the area.
