Ledet’s, Ralph’s partner to bless needy family for Christmas

The minivan that will be given away to a nominated family is parked at Ledet’s Auto Sales at 112 N. Airline Highway in Gonzales.

Ledet’s Auto Sales and Ralph’s Market have partnered to bless a needy family for Christmas with a minivan, Christmas dinner and toys. Scott Ledet, of Ledet’s Autos, said the idea first came to him after watching many families come in his dealership to buy vehicles who can’t necessarily afford one.

“We can’t just give a vehicle away to everybody that comes through here,” Ledet said, “So I figured Christmas time would be a good time to give a family a van with groceries and toys.”

On Christmas Eve, Ledet will choose a family that was nominated for the giveaway and surprise them with their needed gift. Citizens are asked to apply via email at and in it explain why he or she feels a family is worthy of the giveaway this Christmas season. Along with the nomination, include a valid name, phone number and address of the family.

Ledet said when nominating a family to share the story on the “unfortunate mishaps in their life that shows why they deserve this because that’s what we’re going to base our decision on, who may need it the most.”

“It’s not a drawing,” Ledet said. “I’m not going to draw a name out for someone who has a drug problem, I’m going to give it to a family who truly needs it.”

Ronnie Trosclair, owner of Ralph’s Market, was glad Ledet asked him and his business to take part in the giveaway.

“We’ve been part of the community in Ascension Parish since 1984 and Ralph’s has always been noted for its community involvement and giving back,” Trosclair said.

“When Scott asked me if I wanted to jump on board with him, I knew it was the right thing to do because it’s an opportunity that we can give back. And to realize how blessed I am and how unfortunate some people are it was just a perfect opportunity to team up with Scott.”

Ralph’s Market will be contributing the holiday food and meal. Both Ralph’s and Ledet’s will bless a second and third family in need as well. Ledet’s will have a $300 Visa Card and a $200 Visa Card for those families to buy gifts and other needs with. Ralph’s will give meals to those families as well.

“When you have a small community like Ascension Parish and it’s growing it feels good to still have that hometown touch,” Trosclair said. “We are a big community now, but we still see the needs of our people and that’s what makes us say let’s do it every year.”

As of Monday, Ledet said he’s already been getting emails about some very unfortunate families and he said he’s personally reading them all to make sure this giveaway benefits the most in need.

When the idea first came, Ledet thought it would be a one-time deal but after reading some stories both he and Trosclair have agreed to make in an annual thing.

“I hope other business and individuals latch on with us and make it even bigger for next year so we can bless more families,” Ledet said.

Trosclair added: “I’m grateful that I am able to give back to the community and am able to bless somebody. When you see needs of people, it makes you go home and say a prayer for them as well that God will bless them.”

Ledet said if anybody is interested in donating new toys, non-perishable food items can contact himself: Scott Ledet at 225-445-2336 or email at Also stop by either of the two locations at 122 S. Burnside Ave. Gonzales or 112 N. Airline Hwy.
