Update: Ascension Sheriff captures Donaldsonville shooter

John Wesley McMullen, 35, surrendered and was arrested Tuesday evening and was in custody as of 7:30 pm. McMullen was one of three suspects in an afternoon shooting that led to one Ascension Deputy being shot in the hand.

McMullen, is a fugitive from Lake Wales, Florida Police Department for Robbery, Kidnapping, Inflicting bodily injury, Arson, and Attempted first-degree murder.

He is being charged in Ascension for the following:

Attempted first-degree murder of a Police Officer

Flight from an Officer


Armed Robbery

Aggravated Burglary

Aggravated Assault

Other charges may be pending.

Breaking story: Tuesday afternoon an Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office deputy was shot in the hand after trying to apprehend three suspects from, what reports say shoplifting, in Donaldsonville.

According to residents, three male suspects later attempted to home invade on St. Patrick Street when the APSO was called and arrived on the scene as the suspects were preparing to flee.

Residents say the suspects jumped into a white vehicle, and was quickly run off the road. After the suspects opened fire on the APSO deputy, where the officer was wounded.

APSO has reported two of the three suspects have been apprehended, while the third - a white male - is still on the loose.

The suspect is wearing a white tank top and khaki pants and has several tattoos.
