Assumption Sheriff makes arrest in Labadieville homicide
Assumption Detectives obtained a Judicial Arrest Warrant for William O. Thompson, age 61, of 187 Violet Street, Labadieville at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 18, and arrested and charged Thompson Manslaughter of 20-year-old Daquan Rainey.
Sheriff Mike Waguespack reported on February 17 the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call from a concerned citizen stating that there was a male subject lying in a yard, in the 100 block of Violet Street, located in the Labadieville community, and was possibly intoxicated.
Upon the arrival of patrol deputies, it was observed that the subject was unresponsive and rescue units were requested.
Once medical units arrived and the subject was further evaluated, it was determined that the subject was deceased. The victim, Rainey, had recently moved to Assumption Parish with relatives and was a former resident of Houma. Rainey was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office and his body has been transported to the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Thompson confessed to Detectives that he stabbed Rainey inside the residence after a verbal and physical altercation over cigarettes. After the stabbing, the Rainey ran outside and collapsed. The preliminary cause of death reported by Detectives who attended the autopsy at the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is reported to be a stab wound, which severed the pulmonary artery. A knife was later recovered from outside the residence, which is believed to be the weapon used.
No bond has been set as of the time of this release.
