Hanna sworn in as first female Clerk of Court for Ascension
Bridget Hanna was sworn in as the first female Clerk of Court in Ascension Parish on Feb. 3. Hanna has been employed by the Ascension Parish Clerk of Court for 31 years, beginning her career with the Clerk’s Office by working as a Court Minute Clerk. Since 2004, she served as Chief Deputy Clerk.
“I am obviously very happy to be sworn in as the first female Clerk of Court in Ascension Parish but it is bittersweet due to the early retirement of my predecessor, Kermit Hart Bourque,” Hanna said. “For 31 years I’ve enjoyed working for Hart, who’s as unselfish as he is kind. He is the reason we have the best Clerk’s Office in the State of Louisiana.”
Hanna spent the bulk of her swearing in ceremony speech talking about Bourque and how he molded and mentored her into the leader she has become.
“He has not only been a mentor to me but also a wonderful friend,” Hanna said. “I am honored that (Bourque) had the confidence in me to choose me as his Chief Deputy Clerk 11 years ago. He has absolutely prepared me for this day for many years. He has instilled in all of our employees that we are public servants and customer service is our top priority.”
“He is so highly respected throughout this parish and state and I could not be more honored to have worked for him,” Hanna said.
Hanna assumed the duties of Clerk of Court upon Bourque’s retirement in accordance with La. R.S. 18:602C(1)(b).
“(Hanna’s) experience in the Clerk’s Office is unmatched and she has the expertise to lead this office going forward,” Bourque said in his retirement letter. “I retire confident knowing the Clerk’s Office will be in excellent hands under her leadership.”
Hanna said in Bourque’s retirement letter she wants to assure the citizens of Ascension Parish that “I will continue to build the Clerk’s Office on the foundation laid by Hart over the last 51 years.”
“I assure you that our office will maintain the high quality service that is expected and deserved by our citizens,” Hanna said.
Hanna added: “ I send a special thank you to Judge Alvin Turner, Jr., for swearing me in as Clerk, District Attorney Ricky Babin, and Sheriff Jeff Wiley for speaking on at my swearing in ceremony and for their endorsement in the election set for October, 2015.”
