Bright Futures Collaborates with AKA Chapter in Pink Goes Red Health Seminar
Members of the Bright Futures Community Learning Center met at the Lemann Center in Donaldsonville to participate in the health seminar hosted by Phi Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. from Gonzales on Feb. 7.
Phi Sigma Omega President, Chandra R. Darville, said the seminar was orchestrated in support of the American Heart Association’s “goal to support heart disease awareness.”
“This is an activity that my chapter and I look forward to participating in annually,” Darville said.
Guest speaker and Donaldsonville native, Tamiko Francis Garrison, spoke to the Members of Bright Futures CLC. Immediately following the keynote address, Bright Futures’ members participated in four breakout sessions that addressed teen obesity, teen drug and alcohol, health and hygiene, and physical fitness. The youth were able to have a one on one session with trainer, Terrell Robertson of Digg Deep Fitness, LLC, and free onsite vision screenings were provided by Walmart vision center.
