City Council approves Levee Top Project bid

DONALDSONVILLE -  In a unanimous vote, the council to accept a bid of $297,456 from Cycle Construction Co. for pavement to the levee top. Funding for the project comes from the Industrial Development Board, which allocated $109,000 in funds to the city, and from the Rails-to-Trails grant program. 

     The council also voted to authorize Mayor Sullivan to sign necessary documents regarding a $50,000 Local Government Assistance Program grant for repairs to the Lemann Memorial Center. These repairs include painting the exterior of the gymnasium and restoring interior areas that had water damage. A bid of $69,000 from Orgeron Builders was accepted for repairs to the Lemann Center roof. 

     Jonathan Comeaux from the Donaldsonville Fire Department was appointed as the civil service representative from the Fire Department to the Civil Service Board. 

     A resolution authorizing the sale of sealed bids of surplus movable property to the City of Donaldsonville was passed by the council. 

     An ordinance regarding Halloween hours was passed. The new ordinance states that Halloween will be held on Oct. 31, unless it falls on a Sunday then it will be held on Oct. 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for children under 13. 

     The council approved liquor licenses for the following businesses; Gaston's Pub, Walmart on La. 3089, Dat Chevron on W. 10th St., Dbat & H Superette, Bellina's Grocery, The First and Last Chance, CVS on W. 10th St., Walgreen's on La. 3089 and LeBlanc's Food Store on La. 1. The liquor license application for Pack-A-Pack was tabled until the meeting. 

     The next City Council meeting will be held on Jan. 12, 2016.
