Boil advisory in effect

Staff Report

Peoples Water Service Company of Donaldsonville has again experienced problems with its water supply system.

On April 10, a main line burst along La. 18 in the Abend area resulting in a loss of pressure. It was repaired later Sunday. Water samples were collected April 11, with results due back by April 12. Due to the problems, the water produced by the system became of questionable microbiological quality, therefore, as a precaution, Peoples Water Service Company of Donaldsonville issued a boil advisory, to remain in effect until rescinded by Peoples Water Service Company of Donaldsonville.

It is recommended that consumers in the Abend/St Jude subdivision/La. 70 areas disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:

Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)

Peoples Water Service Company of Donaldsonville will rescind the boil advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from the water supply system have shown our water to be safe.
