Landry appointed to Economic Development Board

During the Aug. 9 council meeting, the council approved the recommendation by Mayor Sullivan to appoint Councilman Brent Landry as the Donaldsonville representative of the Ascension Parish Economic Development Board.

SJB Group Engineering Division Manager Cory Blanchard updated the council on the Crescent Park Project. He said the project is more than half way finished and though the contract expires in November, he expects it to be completed sooner.

An ordinance was introduced regarding restrictions on conversions of portable buildings into residential units. A public hearing will be held to further discuss the ordinance on Sept. 13.

A pay application was approved to Cycle Construction Co. in the amount of $164,132.69 for improvements to the Levee Top Project. Sullivan noted that the project is roughly 90 percent complete.

Captain Darryl Smith of the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office gave the report for the month of July. During the month, there was a total of 531 service calls which included 55 vehicle accidents, 52 traffic citations, 48 thefts, 46 alarm calls, 12 residential and vehicle burglaries and one narcotic call. There was also 59 adult arrests and one juvenile arrest.

Fire Chief Chuck Montero gave the monthly fire report. During July there was a total of 127 calls of which 85 were medical calls, 10 false alarms, three structure fires, two hazardous condition calls and one vehicle and one grass fire. There was also a total of 294 man-hours of training.
