Sullivan narrowly claims his office in re-election
In a tight race, Mayor Leroy Sullivan captured the candidacy with 52 percent (1718 votes) of the vote against newcomer Shannon Comery, Sr. who held 48 percent (1591 votes) of the vote. Sullivan has served three terms on City Council and is in this third term as mayor.
“I thank God for allowing me to win again and be able to serve the City of Donaldsonville for my fourth term,” Sullivan said. “I thank my wife and my children and all of my friends who stuck by me and supported me. There are some people that decided to play some games, and I thank them too for showing me who they were. God doesn’t sleep. I am humbled by the fact that I get to serve a fourth term - that doesn’t happen very often. I have to continue to work to serve the City of Donaldsonville.
There are a lot of great things going on. A lot of things that people may not know because they don’t come to the meetings or they are not keeping up with Donaldsonville. I want to encourage all of those people that want to see change to come out to the meetings and get involved.”
