Man arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm

Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Richard P. Simoneaux, 50, of 7405 Highway 1 South, Donaldsonville, LA, on charges related to an incident at the above mentioned address.

Deputies were dispatched to the above residence in connection with an ongoing fight. Deputies were advised through a second call that shots had been fired.

Upon arrival and subsequent investigation, deputies determined that the complainants went to Richard Simoneaux’s residence to retrieve personal belongings. While doing so, words were exchanged between the involved parties.

At some point, Richard Simoneaux is accused of retreating to his residence, securing a firearm, returning outside and firing the gun. Deputies did recover a loaded 9mm handgun and one spent cartridge.

Simoneaux was transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center and booked on counts of:

*Aggravated Assault with a Firearm (2 Counts)

Simoneaux was incarcerated pending a bond hearing.
