Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on July 15, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 10 eastbound east of Grosse Tete in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 28-year-old Albert Pickney II of Lafayette.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Pickney was traveling eastbound on I-10 in a 2007 Dodge Charger. For reasons still under investigation, Pickney stopped his vehicle in the right lane of I-10 and began walking east in the travel lanes. Pickney was struck while walking in the roadway by a 2011 Honda Pilot driven by 39-year-old Amanda Bladsacker of Marrero and a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by 20-year-old Jose Alvarado Jr. of Mission, TX.

Pickney sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office. Bladsacker and Alvarado were properly restrained and not injured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample was taken from Pickney, Bladsacker, and Alvarado for analysis.
