Louisiana reported 26 more COVID-19 deaths Tuesday, but new cases and hospitalizations continued their recent hopeful trajectory downward.

The state's death toll is 4,195 since March.

Cases appear to have plateaued statewide with 1,164 new cases reported Tuesday for a total of 133,125.

But the Louisiana Department of Health said Monday that weekend case totals were likely artificially low because they detected a potential backlog in lab reports.

Hospitalizations fell by 47 Tuesday for a total of 1,335, while the number of patients on ventilators dropped by one to 214.
