Ascension offers free COVID testing throughout parish
Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment announced today that, in an effort to bring free COVID-19 testing to more residents, testing will be conducted at multiple parish parks.
“The previous testing site at Lamar-Dixon was not as convenient for many of our citizens,” Cointment said. ‘We feel by going out to the parks which are more accessible to residential areas, we can reach more people in our efforts to get this pandemic behind us.”
The Ascension Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness and Homeland Security has coordinated with the Louisiana National Guard to administer the free tests according to the following schedule:
- Tuesday March 9 through Friday March 12 - Stevens Park, 43230 Cannon Road, St. Amant, LA, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Monday March 15 through Friday March 19 - Frank Sotile Pavilion, 2162 Thibaut Dr. Donaldsonville, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Monday March 22 through Friday March 26 - Friday Jackie Robinson Park, 35638 Coco Road, Geismar, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Monday March 29 through Thursday April 1 – Dutchtown Library, 13278 LA Hwy 73 Dutchtown, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Additional testing locations and dates will be announced when they are made available.
“Rachael Wilkinson and her team at OHSEP have worked very hard with the National Guard and Parish Recreation to coordinate these testing sites,” Cointment said. “I can’t thank them enough for their outreach efforts.”
Cointment stressed that even though vaccines are becoming more and more available, testing still plays a major part in controlling the pandemic, along with wearing face masks, washing hands, and practicing social distancing.
