Here's what you need to know about the Purina dog food recall in Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas

Purina expanded its voluntary recall of some of its specialty dog food in the U.S. due to pets becoming sick, according to health officials.

The Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental dry dog food is on recall again due to a supplier error. According to the FDA, there are potentially elevated levels of vitamin D in two additional product lots whose dates precede the original recall from February 8.

Some Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets El Elemental dog food is being recalled because it might have elevated levels of Vitamin D, the U.S Food and Drug Administration reported on February 8. 2023.

At this time, no other Purina pet care products have been affected.

While vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs and is commonly found in their food, ingesting too much of it over a period of time can lead to health issues. Vitamin D toxicity can include vomiting, loss of appetite, dehydration, increased urination, excessive drooling and kidney dysfunction. If your dog has experienced any of these symptoms, owners should contact their veterinarian.

Both the 8lb and 20lb bags of the Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental dog food are recalled. If you have purchased this product, it is recommended that you immediately stop feeding it to your dog and throw it away in a container where no other animals or wildlife can access it.
