Donaldsonville man sentenced for felony theft

Judge Ralph Tureau sentenced Elmond Butler, 191, 217 Paradise Alley, Donaldsonville, to 18 months in the Department of Correction at hard labor.

Butler pled guilty as charged to felony theft May 12.

The sentence was suspended and Butler was placed on supervised probation with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole Division for 18 months, ordered to pay a fine of $500, court costs and as a special condition, restitution to the victim in this case.

Butler was arrested by the Ascension Parish Sheriff's office on September 18, 2007 after it was reported by the manager of a local Donaldsonville business that Butler had taken money belonging to the business. Butler was an employee at the time of the theft.

Assistant District Attorney, Benjamin L. Johnson prosecuted this case.
