Donaldsonville woman killed in accident

Staff Report

WHITE CASTLE - A Donaldsonville woman was killed in a one-vehicle wreck early Saturday when she ran off the road, struck two trees and overturned in a ditch, Louisiana State Police reported.

Melissa Joseph, 44, was driving south on La. 405, east of La. 1, in Ascension Parish when her Ford Explorer crossed into the northbound lane of travel, according to a news release issued by State Police spokesman Trooper Johnnie Brown.

Joseph overcorrected when she tried to return to the correct lane and lost control of her vehicle, leaving the roadway to the right. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office, Brown said. Joseph was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
