Home Invasion in Donaldsonville

Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeffrey Wiley reports four arrests following a home invasion in Donaldsonville.

On November 23, 2010, shortly after midnight, the Sheriff’s Office responding to McKinley Street in Donaldsonville in reference to a female screaming on the street. Responding deputies learned that the female had just arrived at her home an accidentally interrupted a home invasion.

The investigation revealed that the female’s family (three adults and three children) was at home when six individuals forced their way into the home armed with weapons and physically forcing the homes occupants to the floor. The perpetrators demanded their cell phones and money. Fortunately, the homeowner arrived home and accidentally interrupted the home invasion. At this point the perpetrators fled the home on foot and scattered throughout the streets of Donaldsonville.

Deputies also discovered a suspicious vehicle in the area of the home invasion and ultimately lead deputies to locating an individual hiding in the vehicle with a weapon. The individual, identified as Ray Bartholomew, Jr. of Edgard, Louisiana, was questioned and subsequently arrested for the home invasion.

As these accounts unfolded during the home invasion investigation the Sheriff’s Office then received reports of gunfire erupting around Lessard and Williams Street. Responding deputies discovered an individual running down Lafourche Street suffering a gunshot wound. The individual, identified as Dezman Louper of Edgard, Louisiana (St. John Parish), was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

As the home invasion and shooting investigation was furthered it was discovered that the two were in fact connected. Detectives were successful in linking Louper to the home invasion prior to him being shot. Upon Louper’s release from the hospital on November 24, 2010 he was taken into custody and also charged with the home invasion. An intense investigation is still ongoing regarding Louper being shot, however no arrest has been made at this time.

A third and fourth suspect were later identified in the home invasion case. Arrest warrants were obtained on Jeremy Lucas and Joshua Vallery, both of Convent. On November 23, 2010 Vallery, 22, of 10486 Legion Street Convent, Louisiana was arrested on the home invasion warrant by St. James Sheriff’s Office. He is presently incarcerated in St. James Parish on unrelated charges and is expected to be booked into the Ascension Parish Jail at the end of this week.

Two additional suspects have not yet been identified. One is described as a light skin African American with shoulder length dread locks, and a cross-tattooed on his forehead between his eyes. The second unidentified suspect is described as an African American male, approximately 5’4” with short twist in his hair. On November 23, 2010 Ray Bartholomew, Jr., 23, of 3291 Antoine Court Edgard, Louisiana was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm and fugitive from St. James Parish. He is currently incarcerated at the Ascension Parish jail on a $125,000 bond set by Judge Guy Holdridge.

On November 24, 2010 Desmond Louper, 31, of 237 East 11th Street Edgard, Louisiana was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm. He is currently incarcerated at the Ascension Parish jail on a $105,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner. Louper also has a state probation and parole hold as well.

On November 24, 2010 Jeremy Lucas, 21, of 10514 Legion Street Convent, Louisiana was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm. He is currently incarcerated at the Ascension Parish jail on a $105,000 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.
