84 year old woman's body found in canal

Sheriff Mike Waguespack reports that on Monday, March 14, 2011, Mrs. Anna

Mae Hidalgo’s body, 84, was found in a canal off of Myles Road in Iberville Parish.

It appears she may have a victim of blunt trauma to the head area.

Family members reported Mrs. Hidalgo missing on Sunday, March 13, 2011. 

Mrs. Hidalgo’s 2005 Chevrolet Impala bearing Louisiana Handicap License plate H229715 was discovered at approximately 5 p.m. abandoned in a wooded area, a short distance from her residence.

During a search of the residence deputies discovered obvious signs of a struggle.

Mrs. Hidalgo last contact with family members was on Saturday evening.

The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory was requested and responded to the scene on Sunday evening to process the residence and the vehicle for potential evidence. The Ascension Parish Sheriff, Lafourche Parish Sheriff, Louisiana State Police Air Support and local volunteers are assisting with this search.
