Allison B. Hudson

A Donaldsonville woman was killed Sunday evening when a car struck her as she was walking across Hwy 1 South in Donaldsonville at about 8:20 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Tony Bacala

Witnesses indicated that  Angel Phillips, 47, of 35172 Hwy 1 North was walking across Hwy 1 south when a vehicle traveling southbound struck her.  The driver of the vehicle reportedly attempted to swerve to evad Phillips but was unable to avoid the accident.

The driver of the vehicle was tested for alcohol and none was detected.  Additionally, another motorist, who was behind the driver, indicated that the driver was not speeding or driving recklessly in any way.

Phillips was taken to Prevost Hospital in Donaldsonville where she died of injuries sustained in the accident.

According to Bacala, no charges have been filed in the case and it appears that the accident was unavoidable.  However, Bacala said, the accident is still under investigation.
