Narcotics Arrest

Staff reports

Ascension Parish Chief Criminal Deputy Tony Bacala reports a Gonzales couple arrested during a narcotics investigation.

In the late evening hours of April 28, 2011, the Sheriff’s narcotics detectives, assisted by Gonzales Police and State Police narcotics detectives, executed a search warrant at 38495 Ruby Road Gonzales, Louisiana. The target of the investigation was Doctor James Leger, a local Chiropractor.

When narcotics detectives approached Legers home, Leger encountered them just outside of the home. As detectives identified themselves Leger was given commands to lie on the ground with his hands behind his back. Due to his noncompliance detectives had to physically wrestle him to the ground in order to handcuff him. A second occupant was found in the home, Legers wife, Melissa Leger.

The search of the Leger home resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of hydroponic marijuana, legend drug (Tramadol), weapons, drug paraphernalia, scales and $6,140 in U. S. currency.

On April 28, 2011 Doctor James Leger, 44, of 38495 Ruby Road Gonzales, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (hydroponic marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of a weapon, and resisting an officer.

Melissa Leger, 46, of 38495 Ruby Road Gonzales,  was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (hydroponic marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of a weapon, and possession of a legend drug (Tramadol).

Both are being held in the Ascension Parish jail and no bond has been set at the time.
