Homicide in Donaldsonville
Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala reports the arrest of a Donaldsonville man for murder following a late night shooting in Donaldsonville.
On July 6, 2011, shortly after 9 PM, Ascension authorities were dispatched to Catapla St. in Donaldsonville after receiving reports of a shooting. When deputies arrived they observed a subject, later identified as 33 year old Walter Carl Morris, Jr. of 304 W. 6th Street Donaldsonville, lying on Catapla Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Standing several feet away from Morris was 32 year old Jeremy James Washington holding a handgun.
Deputies disarmed Washington and took him into custody. Morris was rushed to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
During the investigation a search warrant was executed at Washington’s home, which is about 30 yards from where the homicide occurred, and a quantity of “crack” cocaine was seized along with narcotics paraphernalia and U. S. currency.
On July 6, 2011 Jeremy James Washington, 32, of 506 Catapla Street Donaldsonville, Louisiana was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder and possession with intent to distribute “crack” cocaine. Bond has been set at $425,000 and Washington remains in jail.
