Traffic stop yields 220 grams of drugs

A large Ziploc bag was located underneath the driver seat with approximately 220 grams of suspected marijuana.

     BAYOU L’OURSE – Sheriff Bruce Prejean reports that on Feb. 25 at approximately 7:15 p.m., an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Cadillac Deville on La. 398. The vehicle was being driven by Manuel Fabre, 32 of 128 Cecelia St., Bayou L’Ourse. 

     The driver acted nervously and was constantly looking back at the car. Due to smelling marijuana when he walked up to the car, the deputy deployed his K-9 for an open air sniff around the vehicle. The K-9 alerted on the driver side door which prompted a search of the vehicle. A large Ziploc bag was located underneath the driver seat with approximately 220 grams of suspected marijuana. The driver and passenger, Jericha Sweetser, 25 of 112 Diane Lane, Patterson, were taken into custody. There were also two juveniles in the vehicle at the time and they were released to their grandmother.

     Manuel Fabre was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center on Feb. 25 for possession with intent to distribute Schedule 1 controlled dangerous substance (Marijuana), illegal use of a controlled drug in the presence of a juvenile, taillamps required. His bond has been set at $20,152 and he has bonded out as of the time of this release. Jericha Sweetser was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center on Feb. 25 for possession with intent to distribute Schedule 1 controlled dangerous substance (Marijuana), illegal use of a controlled drug in the presence of a juvenile. Her bond has been set at $20,000 and she has bonded out as of the time of this release.
