WAFB Honors Top Graduating Seniors as Best of the Class 2014
Baton Rouge – Peyton Joffrion, Ascension Catholic High School, was honored at a reception Sunday, May 4th at the Lod Cook Alumni Center at LSU.
Beginning the 1st week of May, WAFB Channel 9, Investar Bank and McDonald’s Valluzzo Family Restaurants, will honor 90 of the highest academic achievers from the public and private high schools in the WAFB Channel 9 viewing area. This area includes 11 parishes and 2 Mississippi counties. The 25th Annual Best of the Class project will be broadcast through June on WAFB, as a series of 60-second announcements appearing throughout the day and in primetime. The “stars” of the announcement will be the outstanding students themselves.
The Best of the Class was videotaped on location at the Lod Cook Alumni Center at LSU on May 4th. Executives from Investar Bank, McDonald’s Valluzzo Family Restaurants and WAFB anchors were on hand to greet and congratulate the students and their parents.

WAFB began the Best of the Class program in the Channel 9 service area in 1989. Since then WAFB has featured over 1500 scholars. This year 90 more will be added to the honor roll.
As WAFB marks 25 years presenting the Best of the Class, General Manager Lee Meredith said that the program is one of the televisions station’s most important projects.
“All of us at WAFB are proud to be able to recognize the accomplishments of these great students,” Meredith said. “These young men and women are destined for great things as they go on to college and their careers. We’re happy that we can help share this pinnacle of achievement with the entire community.”
