Council appoints chairman, vice chairman
In the first meeting of the new year, Mayor Leroy Sullivan, along with Councilmen Lauthaught Delaney Sr., Raymond Aucoin, Reginald Francis Sr., Rev. Charles Brown Sr. and Brent Landry were sworn into office by Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson.
The council voted to reappoint Councilman Aucoin as Chairman and Councilman Delaney as Vice Chairman.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Report was given. During the December 2016 there was 122 traffic citations, 94 adult arrests, 49 alarm calls, 46 vehicle accidents, 41 thefts, 15 burglaries, seven juvenile arrests, six narcotic calls and three armed robberies.
Donaldsonville Fire Chief Chuck Montero gave the fire department report. During December 2016 there was a total of 105 calls, consisting of 77 EMS calls, 10 false alarms, four grass/ trash fires, two vehicle fires, two hazardous condition calls and one structure fire. The department participated in 129 man hours of training.
During 2016 there was 1264 calls consisting of 855 medical calls, 224 other calls, 93 false alarms, 32 hazardous conditions, 24 structure fires, 23 grass/ trash fires and 13 vehicle fires.
Resolutions approving the liquor licenses for The First ABD Last Chance, Bellina's Grocery, L & H Grocery & Liquor, Bernardo's Catering, Popingo's Convenience Store, Marchand Meat Market, Pack-a-Pack, Tailgators, T & H Superette, CVS Pharmacy and Jeff's Lounge were approved.
