Robyn Penn Delaney, retired Business Manager and Owner announced her candidacy for the Ascension Parish School Board, District #1.  Robyn is a graduate of Donaldsonville High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge. She is the former Manager of Eckerd Drugs and the former Owner of Sunshine Home Health Care, Inc. and Nails and More, Inc.

Delaney stated that it brings great pride for her to say that she resides in Ascension Parish and is also a lifelong long resident of Donaldsonville. If elected to serve----as a retiree-- she would be available to visit the district schools during the day--- as needed--- and also attend board meetings at night. Her hopes are to promote the following agenda as she works closely with other members of the board and the central office staff:

1.         Conduct community meetings to listen to the concerns of the Students, Parents, Teachers, Support Staff and Administrators.

2.         Expand early childhood programs.

3.         Reduce student absenteeism.

4.         Expand Arts and Enrichment Programs.

5.         Continue to support high standards in the curriculum of students.

6.         Make curriculum resources readily available for teachers.

7.         Work to increase intervention in the classroom to reduce time students are pulled out of the classrooms and thus miss instruction.

8.         Expand on-site career readiness programs for students.

As an active participant in her community Robyn has served on the board as a past member for the Ascension Parish Council on Aging. She is a current board member of the Ascension Fund (obtains grant money for teachers) and the Donaldsonville Area Association for Retarded Citizens (DAARC). She is a member of the Donaldsonville Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Donaldsonville, the Southern University Alumni Association and she is also a member of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church where she volunteers in the business office.

In addition—she serves as a volunteer for the Louisiana Development Ready Community (LDRC) Committee for the City of Donaldsonville and also volunteered for the D’ville Mega Sports Camp Plus, and the Choices Program at Lowery Middle School.

Robyn is the daughter of Juanita “Neat” Morgan of Donaldsonville and the late Robert Penn, Sr. of New Orleans, LA. She is married to Lauthaught Delaney, Sr. They are the proud parents of Donaldsonville High School graduates Rev. Lauthaught Delaney, Jr. and Alayasia Delaney White. They also have three grandchildren who they adore–Kiyah Delaney, Kyle Delaney and Talaya White.

Delaney states that she realizes that the children are our future. She pledges that if she is elected to the District #1 seat that she would be a committed servant to the residents and do her best to ensure that all students receive an equal and quality education. Finally—a guide for Robyn’s life has been the following quote by Edward Everett Hale—“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.”
