Former Donaldsonville Chief Publisher Jesse LaJeune Waggoner dies

Mr. Waggoner received a BS Degree from MTSU in 1959. Later that year he started his newspaper career at the Shelbyville Times Gazette. He later worked at the Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro before moving to Enterprise, AL in 1972. In 1975 he became Publisher of the Donaldsonville Chief in Donaldsonville. He was later Publisher of Appalachian Newspapers, Inc. in Pikeville, KY and in 1990 became Publisher of Stanley News & Press in Albemarle, NC where he retired in 2000. He and his wife moved back to Bedford County in 2006.

He was a member of Central Methodist Church in Albemarle, NC, a veteran serving in the Army Air Corp and later the US Airforce, Member of the F&AM Lodge # 122, Save the Quail Foundation and was a very talented Birdog trainer.

Survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Patton Waggoner

One son, Keith Waggoner of Albemarle, NC

One daughter, Karen Hartman (David) of Napoleonville.

Grandson, Jesse Waggoner, granddaughter, Abby Waggoner both of Stanfield, NC

Granddaughter Amanda Hartman Brown (Don) and two great-grandsons Atticus & Emerson Brown of Ottawa, Canada, Step grandsons Mitchell Medlin now serving in Afghanistan

Stuart Hartman (Jackie) and their son, Hilton of Belle Rose.

Step granddaughters, Jennifer Hartman (Richard) Schissler and her children, Christina & David Jackson and Ashley Hartman Uter (Brennan) and their daughters, Emily Ann, Adeline and Eleanor Uter.

Sister, Faye Cooper (Kenneth) of Shelbyville and Theresa (Ray) Coltrane of Winter Park, FL

Brothers, Phillip Waggoner (Lois) of Gaston, SC & Danny Waggoner of Unionville, TN

Preceded in death by parents Jesse and Gracie Hines Waggoner, one brother, Norman Waggoner and one sister Jamie Stovall.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday Sept. 25, 2010 in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Brother Kenneth Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Mount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Doak-Howell Funeral Home is serving the family.
